Metabolomics Australia was founded in 2007 and is the first high throughput Metabolomics facility in Australia. There are currently 5 research nodes around the country that house staff and equipment dedicated to servicing researchers interested in small molecule analysis. Services are focused on all areas of technology, with the aim of providing access to world leading advances and technology for academic and private Industry.

Metabolomics is defined as the comprehensive and quantitative analysis of all metabolites in biological materials (e.g. cells/tissues/plants/microbial extracts/biofluids such as blood or urine). Metabolite profiles reflect the conditions of the analysed material and can lead to biomarker discovery of an abnormal condition or elucidate biochemical pathway operation. In combination with other functional genomics analyses, it offers the potential to understand a whole biological system.

Metabolomics Australia at The University of Western Australia (UWA) provides open access to all researchers Australia wide, including training, sample analysis by mass spectrometry and consulting. Academic users pay a subsidised rate only for consumables and the lab is a non profit service. Commercial customers are offered very competitive rates. Our goal is to use our expertise and equipment to fuel cutting edge research; we strive to form strong collaborations with any interested scientists to increase the value of their research.
